I can see this having an impact on news organizations embedding Tweets in their stories. They’d be more hesitant to do it if they knew that a majority of readers would see an error or a log in form.

The steps Elon has been taking make it seem more like his takeover of the platform was part of a concerted effort to just destroy Twitter and remove it as a force on the internet that needs to be taken at all seriously. I wonder if he’s backed by the US government. I’m thinking about how much impact Twitter has had on politics and elections and the mostly negative impact it has had on US society and culture lately.

Either way, I deleted my Twitter account about a week ago after being on there for 14 years. I already don’t miss it.

I agree, embedding tweets will become far less desirable now.

It’s possible, he does seem to be deliberately strangling it in many ways. There is probably some truth to the scraping allegations, I suspect a huge chunk of the traffic to my humble Nitter instance was generated by bots/scrapers, for example.

But there were also many legitimate users (like me) that just wanted to read a tweet someone linked without having to worry about interacting with Twitter directly. I’m certainly not going to start logging into Twitter now just to see the occasional random junk, and I suspect the same is true for most people in my camp. So overall he’s gutted the reach of Twitter even further with this move, it’s silly.

Ah shucks. I just created a twitter account the same day I created my account here, for the purpose of drumming up interest for my game that’s in development. They’re making it less and less appealing to be on Twitter by the day
