I believe The Beatles: Rock Band came the closest to being perfect. Eveything about that game was just beautifully done and the only things missing was Pro Drums, an option for Keys, and a few more Beatle songs (Hey Jude, Strawberry Fields Forever, Yesterday etc. etc.)
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater. It is/was a perfect game made even better by the version with a free 3rd person camera.
Just the pinnacle of the series story telling, weird hidden mechanics and encounter design.
Very excited to see how the remake goes (but don’t preorder!)
