My interpretation is that in Starbucks, when they ask your name (and then write it on your coffee), it’s common that they make some mistake. Cthulhu’s name would be impossible to get right if you haven’t heard it before, so Júlio * seems a good-enough attempt. What makes the joke work for me are the expressions. She looks very proud, like thinking “Júlio, for sure that must be close enough”, while Cthlhu doesn’t look very happy.

      * Note (1) that the comic seems to be from a Portuguese / Brazilian, so I’m not really sure how Júlio is pronounced.

Note 2: the Spanish version has another layer because in Spanish “Cutulo” is how it’s usualy pronounced, and “Tuculo” means “your ass”.

EDIT: Note 3: just in case someone doesn’t know Cthulhu, see Cthulhu - Wikipedia

I don’t think I’ve tried to say it out loud in Spanish (native), but I would have probably seen all the 'h’s and gone with something like ‘chuchulu’.

Ah, I interpreted it as the first time he said “Cthulhu” and got “Tuculo”, so his next time in he said fuck it and said his name was “Júlio”. I guess he would have had a different facial expression if my interpretation was correct.

Starbucks never writes your name correctly on the cup, even if you have a normal name like Robert. In this case, the monster’s name is Cthulhu. Which, to be fair, is meant to be unpronounceable to humans, and the spelling is merely the closest approximation one hearing his real name would hear.

The latter one with “tuculo” is funny if you know Spanish. Tu Culo = You® ass.
