George Burns died 27 years ago.

I’m guessing this comic was written before 1996, when George Burns died at ~100 years old… his last movie was in 1994.

This is akin to the Betty White jokes being told up until her recent death.

No, that is Montgomery Burns. George Burns was a real actor/comedian who was famous for playing God (like Morgan Freeman is now) and lived to be very old for the time, so people would joke that he would live forever/actually was god/etc. “Oh God! You Devil” is a classic if you want to see his work.

Born 1896, died 1996 at the ripe old age of 100.

Ended his stage career after a bath injury in 1994. Caught a cold at Frank Sinatra’s Christmas party a month before his 100th birthday, and never fully recovered.

If you’re in a position to attend Sinatra’s Christmas party a month before your 100th birthday you’ve already done well.
