Johor’s by-election for Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seat is held today. The two seats fell vacant following the death of Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.

6:49pm: The polling process for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections ended at 6pm when all 61 polling centres were closed. all the ballot boxes from 362 streams, involving 294 streams for the Pulai parliamentary constituency and 68 streams for the Simpang Jeram state seat, will be taken to two vote-tallying centres as early as 7.20pm. The vote-tallying centre for the Pulai constituency is Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim here while that for Simpang Jeram is Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim in Muar.

5:19pm: The voter turnout for the Pulai parliamentary by-election in Johor at 4pm today was 42 per cent, far below the projected 70 per cent expected by the Election Commission on polling day. In comparison, the concurrent by-election for the Simpang Jeram state seat achieved a turnout of 56 per cent at the same time.

4:20pm: The voter turnout for the Pulai parliamentary by-election in Johor at 3pm today continued its tortoise-pace crawl at 38 per cent, far below the projected 70 per cent expected by the Election Commission on polling day. In comparison, the twin poll for the Simpang Jeram state seat has crossed the halfway mark with 51 per cent of voters having cast their ballots at 3pm.

11:55am: Voter turnout for Johor’s twin by-elections in Pulai and Simpang Jeram have increased to 24 per cent and 33 per cent respectively at 12 noon, the Election Commission said today. The morning turnout at 10am, two hours after polling centres opened, had been at 13 per cent and 18 per cent for the parliamentary seat and the Johor state seat.

7:37am: EC: 205,810 voters eligible to cast their ballots in Johor twin by-elections today

A total of 47 voting centres with 294 streams in the Pulai constituency and 14 voting centres with 68 streams in the Simpang Jeram constituency will open at 8am and close at 6pm.

In Pulai, PH candidate Suhaizan Kaiat is facing Zulkifli Jaafar of PN and independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi, while in Simpang Jeram, PH’s Nazri Abdul Rahman is taking on surgeon Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya of PN and independent candidate S. Jeganathan.
