Algarve really has a beautiful coast line, i’d guess the level of tourism is also fine in winter. How did you find the temperatures then? Do you live in PT or went there to cycle?
I went there to cycle for 4-5 days only, from just under Lisbon along the voast to the most southwestern cape, then to faro to catch my flight. Weather wasn’t great (because of rain and relentless headwind), but as Robert Pirsig says: physical discomfort is important only when the mood is wrong.
I really enjoyed it, tried to do 100km/day of which 30-40% gravel. Campsites were open in low season, prices were great (also for food) and the coastline is just really beautiful. Traffic was pretty considerate to me as a cyclist, had to do a couple of sprints to evade dogs.
Would recommend!
By the way, temperatures were pretty ok for december all things considered. 10-14C at night, 14-18C by day. The days that had a bit of sunny weather were really spectacular.
Sidenote: the algarve has some stunning views but is relatively densely populated and roads were pretty busy. The alentejo (west coast south from lisbon) is really beautiful and not busy at all.
Yeah, that’s how i remember it too, alentejo was real nice and calm. Super windy though. It’s been a long time since i’ve been there. Certainly an intrresting option for some winter cycling with these temperatures.
Sorry for the bad image quality. Can’t edit it somehow now in wefwef.
