My 2 year old daughter gets along great with her newborn sister, and they’ve had some sweet moments. But my toddler has claimed dibs on every play mat, baby chair, and swing. The “mine” phase arrived quite suddenly, and sometimes with hilarious results (imagine a 3-foot-tall toddler’s legs just dangling from a baby rocker). Not complaining or asking for advice. Just sharing an anecdote to help this community start growing.
We’re going through the same thing, every time the baby gets a cuddle, the ticket must receive the same cuddle at the same time. Very difficult if you’re not in position to receive a second child who won’t take no for an answer. But then I did have a lovely cuddle with both of them today that didn’t destroy my spine, and that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?
The “mine” phase has also arrived here, for a nearly 2 years old. Everything is “mine”. Toys, household objects, imaginary things, food, trash, you name it. It’s all “mine”! It’s hilarious at times, exhausting at others.
On the upside, we don’t have a newborn to tend to as well, but I imagine it’s quite sweet to see the two of them having their moments together.
Definitely agree that it can be hilarious at times. There is a book we read often, and one of the pages shows a girl with a turtle next to her. My daughter touches the turtle every time we read the book and goes, “That’s my turtle! Mine!” can’t help but laugh at that one.
