Howdy! Figured I would just put this here quick to start contributing. I’m hoping this place can get as popping as r/ultralight.
Anywho, I have the vast majority of my menu planned out but have a couple of holes to fill in. My partner and I are planning to do it in 8 days but will see if we can actually get it done in 7 (or take a day for just lounging in the middle of nowhere and use the full 8 days). It’s going to be a bit of food to carry but I’m trying to focus on keeping calories per ounce above 130 averaged over the day. I used to through in a complete cookie, but stopped because of how much gas they gave me. It was actually pretty uncomfortable.
I am wondering if anyone here has tried the green belly meals-2-go and if so how are they? Or if taking an extra Snickers bar and calling it good would make more sense. Thanks in advance!
Ah ok, it was Apollo for me and I agree, the Lemmy ecosystem is very usable and has grown appreciably even in the last week. RIF was for Android, right? Which app are you using now?
I’m going the first week of September; would’ve done the last week of August but the Uintas got an above average amount of snow last season so I’m delaying a week to give it as much time to dry out as possible.
Yeah RIF was for Android. Right now I’m using liftoff which feels very familiar to how RIF was.
We are going the first full week of August so should be an interesting experience to say the least. Will probably post a write up when I get back.
Hey! If you do a write-up, consider cross posting to !wilderness_backpacking@iusearchlinux.fyi , I am the mod there hoping to grow the community as well.
I will absolutely post a write up there and very happy to see this instance popping up! Definitely going to also subscribe as well!
Yay! That’s great!
Glad to hear that, it seems like the Lemmy ecosystem is maturing very quickly. I would be very interested to hear about your UHT experience, please do a trip report 😀 Do you have a lighterpack?
No I’ve been meaning to compile a lighterpack but just haven’t quite gotten the umph to do it (and being fastidious isn’t necessarily my forte lol). My kit is pretty well dialed in, but should probably make one just for the shits and giggles of it as well as a packing list of sorts I guess.
I am looking forward to it for sure, though altitude hit my partner and me hard in Yosemite last year. We both talked with our PCPs and got diamox to (hopefully) help with the acclimatization. That’ll be included in the write up too just as another data point for others to take into account.
Gaaah the whole area got so much snow, I had to push a Sawtooth hike that I was going to do over the June/July weekend because the snowpack was still at 8500’. I went a few years ago at that time and it was already dry.
That’s ok though. We need the water. Finally our reservoirs are full again!
Haha yeah, big snow year almost everywhere. Where in the Sawtooths?
Yellowbelly lake to Toxaway lake, up the pass to Sand Mountain and then over the 10 lake trail, do the loop to Smith Falls and back towards the Sand Mountain pass, then back out to Yellowbelly lake.
Lovely. So there would’ve been snow all the way down to Toxaway?
No, Toxaway was clear but going up towards Edith lake and up would have required ice axes!
