A new poll shows former President Donald Trump decisively outpacing Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Republican primary, even in DeSantis' home state of Florida.
It’s extremely unlikely to ever have a presidential candidate and VP candidate from the same state. Part of the election strategizing involves picking a VP candidate from some second state, to try to get that state’s citizens to vote for their guys.
Even more important is that electors can’t vote for a President and VP from the same state. It’s why (for example) Dick Cheney changed his residence to Wyoming in 2000.
That’s the conventional wisdom and it is true, but DeSantis has built up a national profile which would help across the board. Biden picked Harris even though there was no danger of losing in California and he could have solidified a swing state with a different pick. But Harris helped across the board as well.

Huh, I had no idea. I guess I’m not really surprised, based on our country’s history of division amongst the states.

Are we saying Trump is from Florida now?
That is where his legal residence is, so yes, in this context.
Fair enough, New York hates his guts anyways so there’s no political value there
