1 year agoAI represents new possibilities for what games can be.
Personally, I’m really excited for this news. Not for AI generated textures, dialogue, voices, etc. but more for the dynamic, procedural content it could produce (if it is actually used for that).
AI has the potential to make game worlds that are more reactive to the player than ever before. I’m not even referring to NPC dialogue either. I think a lot of people don’t have a good understanding if the kinds of things AI can be used for beyond just generating text and images.
But yeah, if this is just an excuse to fire artists and replace their work with cheap generated content, that would be extremely sad.
I mean, there are games with far better proc gen than fallout 4 that have existed for many many years. So please don’t act like Fallout 4 repeatable quests are the greatest example of what proc gen can produce.
Preston Harvey is just boring uninteresting game design and says nothing about good proc gen.
When used correctly, AI can be a powerful tool in the proc gen toolkit.
