Yeah but the tinkering involved with PC gaming is stopping me from making the jump.
Same with the fact that developers don’t get fixed hardware for around 7 years and you can’t know how well a game is gonna run on your computer.
For now I prefer the cheap Linux admin computer and the console for gaming.
I’m paying around 70$ for the base PlayStation plus in Switzerland and I’m happy with the games I’m getting for free with it. It allowed me to discover quite a few games I’d have never tried otherwise.
If it gets more expensive, I might clearly cancel it, but now I still feel like it’s a good deal.
I’m more worried about the prices of console hardware going up and almost equaling a pc while still having to pay for online or stuff like that…
Really useful tool!
It even helped me as my Surface Go didn’t want to boot on a USB drive, but accepted to boot on it through Ventoy.
It’s one of these miracle software 👍
Some of the things he said are what’s keeping me on PlayStation. You just get the game (probably update it) and you can play it without worries.
I love Linux, but I don’t think I’m ready yet to become a PC gamer unless Sony tries some really anti consumer shit like getting rid of discs while still letting you locked in their PlayStation store.
I’d be willing to pay extra to buy a retro compatibility feature, but never as a subscription.
At first I thought they were talking about compatibility with every previous PlayStation, including the third one.
Sadly we’re not even sure that’s coming for the PlayStation 6.
I really enjoy Gran Turismo 7 even if it lacks a proper career mode and the AI isn’t good.
Looking forward to Asseto Corsa 2 as people were really happy with the first one and I haven’t played it.
Il ne reste plus qu’aux joueurs à ne pas l’acheter pour que Sony comprenne que ce modèle de marché n’intéresse pas les joueurs sur console.
I feel like the problem right now is that we have too many open worlds as if every game needed to be one.
As much as the ps3-xbox 360 era was the FPS Era, the PS5-Xbox X is the open world era.
I hope that soon we will go back to more variety.
Right now I’ve adopted a rythm where I force myself to play a linear game between every open world.
I’ve used an IKEA lightning cable for years and treated it really badly and it’s still in perfect condition. The official lightning cable from Apple had to be replaced every two years (it’s my employer’s phone and we upgrade every two years, stupid waste) because it was always destroyed and I had to give it back in perfect condition.
The quality is also a factor.
I really hope that something gets done about games not being playable anymore. This is really important for the sake of our hobby and clearly not acceptable.
I could understand how multiplayer games would be harder to maintain 20 years after their release, but there is no excuse for solo games.
Yeah it would need to be straightforward and with as little settings as possible as I don’t think it’s what console gamers are looking for. Just watching at videos about games running on Steam Deck and seeing how many different settings you have to choose to get the game running is depressing for me.
About the prices, I also checked Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty and it was 5 dollars cheaper on PS Store than on Steam. It’s clearly not a small indie game though…
Great news among the bad news (speaking about discless ps5 pro). Every company should do this 👍
If physical disc drives disappear, I might leave consoles and only use a Linux gaming PC as they would lose a big advantage in my eyes.
In a way, I guess we really need Xbox to get back to shape so that Sony doesn’t become the only player in its market and doesn’t try anything stupid.
This or Valve releasing a gaming console/pc for your leaving room for approximately the price of a ps5.
But I just made a comparison online as I was trying to buy Star Wars Jedi Survivor and the game is around 80 dollars on Steam, 40 dollars on the ps store and 49 dollars for the physical version on ps5 on a swiss (my country) online retailer. So when people are saying that games are always cheaper on pc, I don’t think it’s always the case.
The Steam Deck is a really exciting project and I might buy its successor but I guess it depends on how it would perform when docked on a bigger screen as I don’t see myself playing all the time on a small one.
I’ve never been attracted by pc gaming, but the disappearance of disc drives and the high prices of PlayStation hardware these days is making me consider buying a Linux gaming PC after this generation.
I’d never thought this as I always saw so many advantages in console gaming…
But who knows, an optional disc drive on ps6 might still be proposed.
I really don’t see the point, but I’m not against it as long as it doesn’t lower anything we’d be getting on normal ps5.
At least for the ps4 and ps4 Pro, I didn’t feel like the ps4 pro created a problem for regular ps4 games.
Steam Deck is really tempting but I’ve seen a lot of videos where people are struggling to find settings in order to be able to play a game, especially the latest AAA games.
A Steam Deck is less powerful than a PlayStation 4, so you might not be able to play a lot of future games.
Still the concept is really tempting and I might one day buy a Steam Console or Steam Deck 2 instead of a PlayStation 6 depending on the direction Sony is taking.
I also love the fact that Valve is supporting Linux.
