Not to rain on the ‘fuck reddit’ parade, because well, fuck reddit, but the volunteer mod requests in the image are all two to three months old. Wasn’t all the backlash from the API decision only in mid-June?

It seems like the opposite. The sources in the article are pointing to over-fishing leading to less resources available for these penguins to feed on, and ultimately they are not able to store enough fat reserves to protect them from the winter sea temperatures.
I’m using kbin on an Iphone SE switching between Chrome and the bookmarked/app version.
On chrome I can get back to the feed by hitting the back button on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, and when using the bookmark app by swiping from the left hand side of the screen to the middle to go back. Both end up taking me back to whatever feed I was in before entering a thread.
If you are on kbin you can access the sidebar info on mobile by tapping the three bars/‘hamburger’ icon at the top left of the page once you are in a thread.
