Normalising the current Labour party as anything even remotely left, which it isn’t in any way shape or form, shifts the window to the right by removing actual left from the map altogether. That’s the whole point of Starmer - to regain back ground for the right after what Corbin awoke in the party and country.

Barely even that, the man is the establishment, and has proven time and time again that he isn’t interested in the working class and other marginalised people. If anything, he’s there to keep things the same so that in the next cycle of this sham theatre the Tories can point to the lack of improvement as Labour failing and get right back in to power again.

The system is designed to self preserve, this isn’t a bug, it’s a feature, and as long as people keep playing along and pinning their hopes on the establishment reforming itself, we’re going to continue our rapid descent in to full blown fascism.

We had the mountain of evidence of how bad it would be before it happened, now we’ve been at it for a couple of years and every single negative prediction has come true. Saying he not only won’t try to mend the situation himself, but that no one will/should in his lifetime (I assume he gives himself at least another 25-30 years), is telling you he doesn’t give a fuck about the wellbeing of the country nor its people, only about those in power who are loving being able to abuse us more as citizens without the EU and their damn human rights looking over their shoulder…

Do you know where this person lives and what food places are available near them? No, you don’t, so how the fuck do you know? Food deserts exist, there are whole towns that depend on dollar stores for groceries. You having options doesn’t mean everyone does.

Ignoring the fact that you also need the spare time and energy to prepare a fresh meal every day after potentially working 2 or 3 jobs and maybe taking care of a couple of kids. And never mind disabled people who can’t cook for themselves…

It’s interesting how people who make these judgments like you never seem to be this critical of the people who own the fast food chains and actively make the decision to sell shit food for obscene prices, or our economy forcing people in to corners where it’s their only option (even if it isn’t yours). Hey, guess what - not everyone is able to go out to eat (not only due to physical disability, but lack of time and energy, and lets not forget a pandemic is still raging out there, and some people can’t just ignore it like the rest of you).

The fact that you’re getting all high and mighty over a poster whose life you know nothing about, for the sake of 2 dollars says a lot more about you than spending 30 bucks on fast food says about well, anyone.

Plenty of young people agree with him, because this isn’t a generational issue, it’s a class one.

I agree, and also think that trans voices should be the only relevant ones to the conversation, but at this point I wouldn’t feel safe completely ignoring the voices of the oppressors, especially not those in power, because that won’t stop them and the very real life impact they have, only fighting back will (I do get burn out though, and when you’re personally impacted taking a step back to try and get a break from all the shit is perfectly valid).

You, and that other person not liking or understanding it, doesn’t change that, nor the fact that what op described is demonstrably happening in politics right in front of your fucking eyes, and only “doesn’t follow logic” if you’re aggressively wilfully ignorant.

So clearly I don’t speak for all disabled people, and as you say, and as is with any group, the needs of disabled people are individual and can change depending on many factors, so I don’t know if I can really give a conclusive answer to that.

You do touch on respect, and that’d probably be the top priority (and again, probably applies to interacting with all people) - we don’t need saviours, we need comrades. Respect the individual and their boundaries, they know themselves better than you do, and if they say no to something, trust that they know what’s best and back off without taking personal offence (and if helping is contingent on someone being nice and eternally grateful - don’t do it. Only help another person because you want to help them, not because you’re looking for praise and adoration. Not saying you’d do this op, but far too many do - like people who grab your wheelchair and push without asking or being asked and then get angry when you ask them to stop).

I think other than that, the main almost universal one would be electricity. Even if someone doesn’t depend on it to power life sustaining machinery and/or aids (and many do), or seems like they immediately need electricity to survive, things like maintaining and controlling bodily temperature can be difficult or even impossible for some, so things like air conditioning, or heating pads (which are also vital for many for pain management), are essential (E: also, communication devices!). So having portable generators or other alternative sources of backup power in case of emergency can be a huge help.

Beyond that, the only way you can know is to get to know the disabled people in you community, build relationships friendships and trust, listen to them and let them know you’re there to offer help and support if they need it. If they feel safe and comfortable, they will come to you when and if they need it.

I agree with everything you’ve said, just one tip: please don’t call us “differently abled”, we’re disabled, and there is nothing wrong with calling us that.

Otherwise, thank you for actually including us in the first place, not many people do.

Nothing on your list couldn’t also apply to an adult, especially those most privileged and entitled in society.
