The two things that I think of when I think of India are that it’s way too overpopulated and also way too hot.
Aside from that, there are a lot of academics I’ve seen from India that are genuinely helpful on YouTube but also a lot of scams. Speaking English with an Indian accent almost instantly creates a sense of distrust in Americans simply with how many times we each personally have received scam calls or talked to someone in an Indian call center who swears their name is ‘Derek Johnston’ or other similarly fabricated name.
That’s not doing facial recognition though, that’s a reverse image lookup. It’s a lot easier to find an exact match for a photo.

Apparently the way Lemmy’s link creation works makes all first-level replies to your comment the same link AS your comment. So, in providing the link ‘to be helpful’, you only linked to your own comment. That’s not actually helpful and so it doesn’t come across in the best way.
About a year after it came out, I was singing along with it during a depressive episode and realized ‘seven’ wasn’t accurate anymore. It freaked me out, but I realized that part of the nature of the song is the impending doom, and I have to change the lyrics when I get to that part.

I wonder if there’s any recourse for content creators having ads directly added into their video. If an ad shows something illegal, is it the Ad creator, Google or the video creator who are responsible? It seems like moving the ads from a third party site to being inside the video file itself changes who is responsible for it, but IANAL.
He needs a little lever that’s not attached to anything too.

As someone who used to work with creating DLC codes for code-in-box pack-ins, I’m SHOCKED this doesn’t happen more often. Sometimes it’s as simple as a checkbox in a submenu in a submenu of the submission information of a title not matching a different checkbox, especially when you start adding in combos of ‘deluxe editions’.
They’re not really being “generous” by allowing people who already redeemed the code to keep it, it’s just WAY too much of a hassle to remove and re-do those codes for specific people. It’s much easier to just nuke ALL the codes and send out new ones.
It’s a contact allergy, so mostly it just makes you break out in a rash if you wear jewelry or work with tools that have been plated in nickel. It takes time before you break out, although people instantly falling over after getting a handful of change would be hilarious to see.
I’d imagine they include their off-hours in the ‘averages’.

I’ll try to flip the question, but I don’t agree with a few points in your premise. The opposite of ‘nothing’ isn’t ‘everything’ or ‘infinite energy’, it’s ‘anything’, and it’s very easy to see that something exists. Even in the vacuum of space, we can still detect energy from particles and anti-particles spontaneously being created and destroyed. There’s something there, even when there’s “nothing” there. That’s one of the things that still blows my mind about our universe, and that’s also what I mean when I say that from what I can see, it’s impossible for nothing to exist, even in a square meter of empty space.
Your question of discreteness is a good one, but also something that science can never answer because science doesn’t answer ‘why’. It answers ‘how’. We can get closer to guessing the ‘why’ the more we test a subject, but any explanation to the ‘why’ is our just current best theory that makes the most sense and is always subject to change.
Now, if there was a universe with infinite energy, then it would have infinite mass. If it has infinite mass, then it would become a black hole. We can’t see inside black holes because their gravity won’t allow the fastest thing in the universe to escape, so if there were such a universe, we couldn’t tell what it was like unless we were already inside it. We might figure out something faster than light someday and be able to study black holes more, but until then, we know that we can’t know that.
And that’s one of the biggest frustrations with science that I hear from religious people. We have to get comfortable knowing that we can’t know something, and people have been too ingrained with the idea that if they CAN’T know something then it MUST be god. But to quote an annoying scientist I occasionally agree with, “Just because you don’t know how something works doesn’t mean you know how it works.” I.E. You can’t just substitute ‘god’ in anytime you don’t know the answer because I can always do the same with ‘The Flying Spaghetti Monster’.
Each of these ideas solves a different aspect of the bigger problem, but none of them will solve the entire issue.
The problem is that with these ‘realistic’ views, we never make ANY progress by just throwing our hands up, saying ‘Well there are just too many guns to solve the problem with a single solution.’
