The system traps you within. Breaking away from it can be a difficult venture and cannot be done completely without some retribution from the system itself. They’ll punish you for it to some degree and people have even been killed over it.

But yes, vanlife (or off-grid living) can liberate you to be potentially happier. At the very least unencumbering oneself from the odious monthly outlay just to live helps a lot. I don’t choose to do this (yet), but have friends that exist this way.

It might be worth pointing out there are two sci-fi shows called “Dark Matter”.

I agree! Solving tech issues leads to searching the net and all too often the results are a video about the solution when text is all you need. Watching a video just to see what they type is very mildlyinfuriating.

Breakfast meals are perfect any time of the day. The only one I have trouble with is pancakes. It eliminates dessert as all that syrup is sweet enough. I understand that’s a personal problem for me. I gotta put a cap on that sugar intake.

I vocally say “Byeeeeee…!” whenever the call is hung up.

I get your meaning (and agree), but tipping as a practice should be dead and gone.

I was in SoCal several months back and ended up in a candy shop. Nothing but drawers of candy on the walls and one desk in the middle with a young woman sitting behind the checkout tablet. I had a question or two, but she was neither helpful or knowledgeable (it’s candy. not a difficult topic). She seemed very disinterested in engagement.

Well, I finish my selection, she scans and the tablet shows the totals with the big tip screen (NoTip-15-20-25%). I was taken aback that her job would get tips and wondered if she was paid enough before I smashed the NoTip button to finish up since she hadn’t done a thing to merit one.

Don’t forget the toxic Manosphere out there in the genpop. Many young men are drawn into the Rogan-type bs.

That and the tracking/data collection. My car is a 2007 (pre-black box) and I repaired nearly everything on it to ensure it will keep functioning soundly. I see no personal value in purchasing a new car at the moment even though I can afford it. I am happy to save that money. Another reason is that anything ICE is insanely complicated and EVs still seem to be finding standards that I am still learning about. Even choosing EV, they still track/collect.

There are a couple vehicles that I love the shapes of and I am sure they’d be fun, but I can’t readily accept the dystopian mechanism underneath the gleaming hood.
