Facists argue that a certain group deserves authority, communists argue precisely the opposite, that the current regime with authority doesn’t deserve it and it should be apportioned equally and democratically instead. Because you live in a world where 99% of the media is controlled by the capitalists, you have been conditioned since birth to believe that every single movement of the people was actually a movement of a small group of elites, and that the countries that are currently exclusively controlled by their elites are in some way democratic.

It’s called Kirchensteuer and it’s deducted from your paycheck automatically if you’re on the church rolls. You get put on the church rolls as a kid if your parents get you baptised. You can get yourself taken off but it’s a whole process, the system is clearly designed to keep as many people paying the tax as possible.

I would love so much to see a modern remake of this film that was based on Vasily Zaitsev’s firsthand account of the battle, rather than the pop historical one it ended up drawing most of its information from. Good luck getting it past American censors in the current political climate, though.

IIRC Grindelwald kills a baby in the very first scene he’s in in the first movie, so that’s how they establish that he’s evil.

Its weird but notable that all of JKR’s work in the Potterverse since book seven came out has been about how changing the past is bad. The Cursed Child was all about how going back in time to save Cedric Diggory’s life would somehow cause Voldemort to win, and then there’s this trilogy which explains that the Wizards couldn’t prevent the Holocaust because some unexplained worse thing would have happened.

It’s like JKR saw that “how it should have ended” short where Snape uses the time turner to kill Voldemort with a gun and took it way too seriously.

His next film is going to contain major elements that are AI generated, I guarantee it.

The Hobbit. I’ve probably seen “worse” films from a technical perspective, but that remains the only movie where I’ve left the theater angry, although that may have been because I was only getting got one day off per week at that time and so every hour of it I spent going to, watching, and returning home from that awful film was rage-inducing.

Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm. I’m one of the people who defends the first ATHF movie because it perfectly captures the dadaist stoner energy of the show, but god damn was ATHF’s return disappointing. It took me a couple tries to be able to sit through this film, because even as a “second screen” activity it was grating to me and I kept having to turn it off.

Kulaks contributed to the Soviet Famine of 1930-1933 by mass slaughtering their cattle and burning their fields. Kulaks hoarded grain, took the wealth that they had stolen from their neighbors and fled the country, plotted sabotage and insurrection against the workers’ movement. And for those crimes, many Kulaks were caught and executed.

So if the original commenter’s great grandparents were kulaks who “suffered at the hands of the soviet union,” they deserved it.
