Appetite for Destruction - Guns N’ Roses

Just over an hour of absolutely banging tracks, you start with the sound of siirens in Welcome to the Jungle and end on Axl fucking a woman in Rocket Queen which is also the best GNR song. My last car only had a CD player and this was a constant favourite. The only track that isn’t a 10/10 is “Think About You” and even then it’s still pretty fucking good.

Sorry to be pedantic, but only about 37% of the voting population voted to leave the EU. 34% voted to stay and 29% didn’t vote.

It maddens me when Brexiteers scream “the majority of us voted to leave!” when it’s far from the case.

Currently well into Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire. The first game is one of my favourites but I never got into the sequel and I’ve made it my mission to break through the barrier.

I don’t think I’ve read an Abercrombie book that I haven’t loved, his characters jump off the page and his style of writing is visceral and hilarious. People criticise the worldbuilding (or lack thereof) but that’s because the Circle of the World isn’t a character in these books, it’s the backdrop. Besides, if you’ve read all the books, you’ll realise that there’s actually a shit ton of worldbuilding in there!

Also, Abercrombie is extremely fortunate that he has Steven Pacey narrating his audiobooks. The literal GOAT of audiobook narration (Steve Coogan as Alan Partridge aside).

Knights of the Old Republic - I know KOTOR 2 is probably better storywise, but there’s bugs and cut content (even with TSLRCM) which drag it down. The first game is a solid banger, I still remember my first playthrough when it came out (installing it over 4 discs!) and the revelation near the end of the game blew me away. I still replay this yearly.

Mass Effect - Fuck me, what a game. I know everybody rates the second game the most, but for me the first one is absolutely perfect. The air of mystery, the size of the galaxy and the overall atmosphere are second to none. I never had an issue with the combat (just don’t use the cover system and it’s literally fine) but that’s sorted in the Remaster. Again, replayed annually.

Dragon Age: Origins - I mean where do we start? Refines the mechanics from KOTOR and introduces an incredible, original dark fantasy world. So much replayability because of all the different origins and choices you can make. The world feels fucking hopeless and every choice you make is seemingly about harm reduction rather than ultimately “good”. I try and replay this annually but I’m currently trying to work through DA2 and DA:I (the quality of these games really shows how good DA:O is).

I’m aware that I’ve only chosen BioWare games from a certain era, but I just absolutely love them.
