    mentions of sh/suicide

at the same time I’m starting to understand the elder trans women who’ve said they try to avoid trans/queer spaces/people because of how heavy it can be

One of the non-queer online communities I used to regular had a lot of people who were depressed and some who talked a bit about SH (but talking about that in detail seemed not-allowed) and some who were suicidal. Like one person I came to consider a friend whom had attempted suicide on multiple occasions before joining the community with no reason to believe things could get better. From the beginning I worried he might not be with us for long, :\

It was far from always depressing there, but by comparison this place still seems better? At least there seems to be a lot more optimism for the near-future, even for those whom struggle a lot in the present. But like, at this point I’m starting to avoid that kind of stuff when I can and I’m not even a trans elder…

Didn’t know the terminology at the time, but what I assume now was chronic dissociation made me feel like I had an easier time dealing with that kind of environment and made me want to be there to try to support others. Not really sure how good of job I did though. And its not like I wasn’t affected by those kinds of things… I was just less self-aware of how it was actually affecting me. And now its harder to not be aware of that…

  • Usually 4%/x25 has been considered the rule-of-thumb (and that’s based on a study that considered dying broke okay; not based on capital preservation). x20 would usually be considered fairly aggressive (although that depends if you are including other things like SS benefits if you are in the US).

Given the super-high CAPE ratio currently, even 4% would be be aggressive if you want capital preservation. Something like 3%/x33 would be more geared towards that.
