  • I’m not being flippant but how else would or should I control my smart plugs and lights? Or set a timer with a voice command? Get my devices set up for “movie time” or control music ?

I paid for the Mycroft and that was a flop and they are now out of business.

Using an app is kind of a shitty interface for that type of thing. Even if I managed to do the rain dance to get home assistant up and running with my stuff…

  • I grew up in a religious household. My parents made me go to church and youth group until about 16-17 when I pushed back (still had to go to church but not youth group).

I was always more skeptical of it all. Even as a kid I remember having these “wtf, that doesn’t make sense. So dinosaurs were…on the ark?”

Anyway, after a couple decades of separation from it all you realize how absolutely bonkers religion is. The amount of mental backflips you need to make for it to make even a little sense is borderline insanity.

It’s crazy how otherwise very intelligent people just…go with it and never challenge it. Then will fight with you if you challenge it.

I feel like you all are misplaying your hands. Find contractors that work for the govt.

They can bill the govt much higher rates because you have a PhD. They don’t have to pay you the extra. You could literally tell them that. Pay me at a junior rate and keep the difference until I prove I’m worth more.

You’d be straight revenue/profit for them. and it gets your foot in the door and you start getting actual experience.

  • Sometimes I wonder how people get away with stuff like this. I recall that story from Spain, I think, where a guy was getting a paycheck for like 20 years but not working at all. I guess they did a reorg and his new ‘boss’ didn’t know about him and he never got work assigned and he just stopped showing up…for years.

It has to be a pointless job to start with, right? If I just didn’t work at my job for a week it would probably get noticed. If I no-showed completely it certainly would.

I’d probably be given the benefit of the doubt for a few weeks if I just stopped producing work. I could maybe make it a month before someone said something about my performance but only because sometimes the things I work on take a while to come to fruition. And missing meetings isn’t uncommon because of conflicts/being super busy.

Id probably also get the benefit of the doubt if I no-showed too. But after a two days they’d call my wife or come by my house, or send the police department to my house to check on me.

  • But that’s still huge. Theyve likely grown up surrounded by conservatives their whole lives. Conservative talk radio, then fox news, oreily factor every night, Sean hannity, glen beck, and now modern social media and YouTube has them getting pumped with ridiculous echo chamber bs.

The fact they are “undecided” is pretty fucking damning for Republicans and conservatives.

They are stepping back from an entire world view and even an “identity” they’ve had their whole life. That’s huge.

It’s fine to be frustrated by it but it’s still a good thing.

Edit: the good thing is that they are now undecided. Not that half of voters are still voting for the orange turd.
