Sounds like a great idea! There could be a monthly or quarterly post to encourage people to link (or quote, if not too long) the various things they want feedback on in the response comments.

I did in a previous writing community run into the issue that people would, when somebody discussed general writing approaches, point back to their own previous feedback posts and find flaws in the posts to try to “prove” to them their more general thoughts on writing approaches was wrong. Which in my opinion scares people away from daring to post their work, when it later comes back at them in a more general discussion.

Therefore, I would only request people stick with “3. What happens in feedback or critique requests posts stays in these posts” which I suggested as a rule for that reason.

  • hi everyone! hoping to find other like-minded authors here!

as for myself, i often like to write fantasy, scifi, or some sort of thriller urban modern world setting but with fantasy or scifi in it! i usually work on novels, non-fiction or poems aren’t really my area of expertise. so far my works aren’t published yet, but i got already 2 drafts close to ready with multiple revisions, hoping to make a nice start once i’m ready to throw them out via self publishing. some current events, including the whole climate disaster happening, have certainly had an influence on it, also that i’m maybe sitting inside a little too much with curtains closed to focus on my work (oops). there’s often a lot of apocalyptic vibes, societies crumbling, inequality, and such going on.

i also like to include lgbtq+ representation, and often it’s a bit youth focused although more for older teens if anything, the topics can be a bit gritty. i’m curious to hear what everyone else who might join here at some point is up to!

  • For what it’s worth, this is a long rabbithole on the whole e2ee thing so just in short:

From what I gathered poking around in the past XMPP’s OMEMO seems to have had shakier protocol design often leading to silently lost messages if you use multiple devices (I asked around among devs what it actually did and why, would take a while to explain) while Matrix usually has noisily lost messages so you can try to resend. So since that happened to me I’ve abandoned XMPP personally, I wouldn’t know why these differences existed or whether it was fixed since then.

(Regarding group chats, I also think e2ee is still useful there, can limit leaks a little if you use history since joining and ban leakers if possible.)
