@illectrility @Vej Solid backpack, but not a CCW backpack in any capacity
I’m an advocate for digital privacy, better cycling infrastructure (and culture), linux using nerd, who listens to all kinds of music

@constantokra That’s interesting. I’d check SAK Wiki or field it with the folks on r/victorinox (they also have a discord server).
The main tools are identical to the swiss champ, but the back tools are a bit different. There’s also no sewing eye on the reamer/awl. So maybe it’s an older version of the swiss champ. The newer one also has plus scales so it has a pen included which you would see the slot for on this side of the scales.
@pineapplelover @Steamymoomilk These days, stuff made in China runs the gamut from sweatshop to well paid labour and from crappy clones to very premium manufacturing.
If a company talks about their work environment and prides themselves on it, the labour might be fair. I wouldn’t trust this messaging from someone like Nike though.
I mostly avoid China for political reasons
@constantokra @SendMePhotos Oh and of course if you’re looking for something without pliers, a 91mm or 93mm(alox) Victorinox is very good. The cons are no locking tools, one handed blade, or pocket clip
Climber gives you blades, scissors, screwdrivers, can and bottle opener, Huntsman adds a wood saw, Mountaineer adds the metal file/precision screwdriver/metal saw, Ranger adds both. The Huntsman is super cheap from victorinox themselves and the Mountaineer is the most expensive.
@Eheran There’s a metal bar right behind the back that notches in, so the pressure goes there. The tape is just stopping it from sliding downwards. Thanks for pointing that out though.
(I sat in it for an hour)
@Vej I would look at the Vertx Gamut backpack! I’m not a fan of this American company that tries to act all macho and patriotic while manufacturing their stuff who knows where, because they just say “imported”. Instead of “Made in China” or “This is our partner factory in Vietnam at this specific address”.
You’re not gonna find a CCW bag without Velcro to be honest, that’s how you attach the holster. But the gamut seems easy to clean out and none of the Velcro is exposed to the exterior
@7heo @sleepybisexual Yeah I addressed this in another comment, it’s dumb to say “this is objectively the best”.
Buy I stand by Victorinox’s quality! Have you see the Swisstool Spirit MX Clip? The tolerances and fitment are better than Leatherman tools according to many youtubers. Gerber is shite. I do wish Victorinox had more one handed models, and pivots you could disassemble like LM.
Anecdotally, my Mountaineer is shaving sharp, and I’ve batoned it through firewood and it’s still that sharp
@FlashZordon @tkk13909 Definitely check out CalyxOS. There’s been a lot of drama between the graphene and calyx communities, but mostly attacks and misinformation from the graphene side. The Calyx foundation is really cool and they provide good support. Graphene *enhances* the android security model (this is useful perhaps but extreme for most people) while Calyx maintains it - most custom ROMs weaken the security model by not relocking the bootloader.
@tkk13909 @FlashZordon CalyxOS and other ROM user here, degoogled phones are awesome
@mipadaitu I honestly didn’t consider how objective my title was, lol
The 91mm SAK is *one of the best* pocket tools in existence, certainly. But normally I wouldn’t say something is THE BEST, because that’s highly subjective.
@yojimbo Yes, the 91/58mm Victorinoxes are uniquely non-threatening and that’s valuable. I assume no matter what they do, that style will always be available.
The idea that knives aren’t allowed AT ALL in many places is asinine to me. I can understand courthouses, and blade length restrictions for some govt buildings, but entire university campuses? Hilarious! My SAK comes in handy on campus sometimes.
@etuomaala For the record, if you posted multiple images, they’re not visible to me on Mastodon. When I’ve done the opposite, posting to Lemmy with a Mastodon account, multiple photos aren’t visible to the lemmy users either.
@cashews_best_nut @fujiwood If you do want a lighter like a zippo, make sure to get a butane insert, not the original zippo insert! The butane ones are easier to use and don’t leak fuel.
Note that many of those new zippo inserts are made in China. Countycomm sells great “peanut lighters” which are small, circular (pill container style) and completely waterproof. They don’t leak fuel either and are made in the USA.
Zippos are just such a great form factor for pocket carry
@TheFriar For sure. I see that OP already bought something so just offering my thoughts in general. There’s no shortage of bags with just one big void to throw stuff into, especially with pouches being popular right now. I found something that fit the right spot between too much and too little organization.
@just2look @DeepChill +1 for Mystery Ranch as a brand for any kind of bag. The Catalyst (especially the 26) is awesome for its huge top pockets and organization. The District 24 and 18 are also good backpacks with thoughtful organization, but they look traditional and are the kind of fabric that will conform to however you want to pack it and stay out the way.
Mystery Ranch is moving towards using recycled cordura nylon for everything, and all their bags are said to be comfortable
@TheFriar @DeepChill As a generally low-income person who recently spent hundreds on a bag I will defend expensive products lol. To me, if it uses recycled materials, fair trade labour, and the design is something innovative and thoughtful, it’s worth it. You do pay more for features.
@aard It sounds like you might appreciate the Incharge X and other cables by RollingSquare, it’s USB-C or A to USB-C or MicroUSB or Lightning, up to 100w PD, data transfer and no magnetic tips
@merde I think we’d appreciate most of your comment if you didn’t call the movie boring
@loudWaterEnjoyer @wren A lot of people have been asking about the skill toys and wren has already answered what they are for many times. I think wren’s assuming that the person who said “all for a fidget toy” has already read the other messages and is just being disingenuous.
