  • They enforce narrative hard. I was following along one thread about California not allowing parents to be told about their kids changing gender. Every negative comment would disappear and the user banned.

I’m thinking it’s partly a problem with the incentive system the fediverse creates. The type of person that wants that kinda admin power. It’s just usually not a healthy type of person.

I think reducing their power with technology like nostr is important but ultimately we need healthier incentives to participate.

Handing out Bitcoin is a decent idea. If people would just shut the fuck up about Bitcoin the rest of the time

  • Dude you’re like super smart lol how do you just ‘know’ how to do that?

thank you. It’s actually not much though it’s just a simple script. barely 200 lines of code And I had to read the spec. Mostly here and here Any code monkey should be able to do it.

While doing that I had my own relay up (nostr backend) based on the nostr spec creator’s relay lib . Then I could look into the data base to see how that spec really worked. Just basic sql queries.

You can actually see where I figured out how to query nostr with websockets two weeks ago here https://exploding-heads.com/post/714630

So now I know enough knowledge to actually build apps off the nostr protocol. It’s much easier to understand than the fedivers’s activity pub.

Like let’s just say if you wanted to, could you make a bridge for reddit in nostr?

No not really. Their api is now closed off. And really the whole redit exodus that brought all the lemmy.world users was because they locked it down. Third party apps stopped working.

I would have to do page scraping and it would be painful and reddit could break it easily by just changing their layout a little bit.

I’ll likely build more nostr stuff in the future. But I only have a few hours a week. So it will probably be low hanging fruit like this one that can really change experience quick with little effort.

  • I don’t see at all how it’s one of our largest strength. It’s a constant source of conflict. Places like Japan can really focus on their society and not have whole cities brought to the grown because a white cop killed a black person.

Nor do they have gangs of “insert color” people beating the shit out of Japanese youth.

Any time you add a element of diversity it’s going to increase conflict . So it should be for good reason every time.

In America it’s always been about cheap labor.

I love that I can learn a language and practice it in America because we have so many immigrants but it’s kinda crazy to think it’s our greatest strength.

That would be our natural resources and freedom loving constitution if you asked me.
