@Woozythebear @haui_lemmy If you are happy with your windows gaming box and already on windows 11 or with modern hardware which is not going to get their performance crippled with win11 and you are not annoyed by the telemetry and the commercials inside your desktop nor by the fact that Microsoft is really pushing for using their online accounts in your local machine, then you don’t need to switch anywhere.
@flashgnash @samc As a linux steam player i answered this survey 2 times on the last ~15-20 years.
And i did it then, because i wanted to feed steam’s efforts on linux as gaming platform.
@helenslunch @umbrella A lot of Windows games need vc runtime or other libraries installed on the system.
Steam users got this managed from the installer (also in linux) but if you install it manually from the game installer chances are that the installer may not manage their dependences.
On linux world you can get a lot of oresets using lutris btw
@kurcatovium @blindsight Big Corp tends to have surrogated the maintenance and deployment of their Hw.
It will.mean a huge flood of samall hp desktop computers and similar to the aftermarket for the next years.
The mid and small companies will have issues and they might keep their win10 for.longer, opening a nice opportunity window to hackers in general.
Domestic users will be at the same position.
Lots of people can upgrade without meeting the requirements and they will be the pariah ignored by microsoft support.
TPM chips to be added to your board will be a growing market.
And a few lucky ones will end using linux, freebsd, haiku or whatever which fits with them.
