Yes Finland, Switzerland and Austria were non NATO are prospered fine, I would say even thrived. Same as Singapore with China. Ukraine was awkwardly neutral (it was more a pro-anti rotation govs) before 2014 true… why US senators and Nuland ended there fanning a coup and ended handpicking the leaders? The invasion happened in 2022, 4 month after Russia send a letter to NATO to keep off Ukraine. Russia, as imperialistic aims it may have, have no intentions, not capabilities of invading Poland, Lithuania or Finland. Finland was no NATO and not even the USSR touch it. Mexico’s since Obrador is highly critical of the US, but wisely, choose to calm things down rather than going the Cuban and Venezuela route… see what works best. Is it fair? No, but one has to be pragmatic.

If you can sneak backdoors, removing one side, would not make the other side, even if you consider the good one, be even more able to sneak one too. In election tables, what guarantees transparency is everyone represented at the table, not banning one side.

Nobody says to ignore the law… it is Linus comments that were bad. Instead of defending the people that was working for him all these years and he had trust on them, he decided to throw them under the bus because he is from Finland. Well, Finland prospered the most on its life under neutrality.

What current situation?

1. Is so hard to believe Open Source should be open? If there were a malicious intent, others would have been able to detect it in no time… because it is ‘open’! If the open system works, it should not matter there are CIA or FSB, commies or libertarians “infiltrated” making the code.

2. If those Russians had been in that position is because their contributions have been stellar, otherwise they would never have gotten there. Their contribution and effort has been robbed from them just because they mothers give them birth in the wrong coordinates.

3. Linus is a god for many of us… with human traits though… His Finland, although historically robbed by Russia, achieved its highest splendor during the decades of neutrality, not by fiercely antagonizing one or the other power… same as Switzerland, Ireland, Austria and Singapore.

4. All this started with a US law so he has to comply with. However, instead of those unhelpful comments, he should say that in open software it is unwarranted… not to mention countries can get sanctions for their actions, but not civilians that cannot choose where they are born.

5. If we are to believe that Moscow is trying to put something into the kernel “undetected”… gosh, what an organization based on the US with a so pro-establishment leader may be doing so? For real, now I am starting having my doubts on the kernel!

The 6 Palestinians I know (from protests in the US), 2 in Gaza and 1 in the West Bank they all tell me they could care less Biden vs Trump, But if has to be one… with Trump there is more chances of change in the region, even at the cost of more lives. Besides, it will be far easier to regional countries and the European ones to distance from a link between Trump’s US and Israel.

I am disappointing with Lemmy’s population. I would expect all these “Biden is bad in one thing but good in the rest” mentality so advocating to vote for him regardless.

First, the “thing” is not minor thing… is a crucial matter where the life of millions of people are completely dispossessed of protection and justice.

Second; There are third candidates… Of course, they don’t have a chance and it will be, apparently, a waste of a vote… but only for this November elections! But, if a third candidate, with a genuine distinct message, gets 10-15% of the vote, future candidate will see an incentive to be independent in the future too… Gosh, even both Dem and Rep will be more cautions next time around.

The worse we can do, is to vote the same thing over and over, let alone no voting at all. There is nothing more the duo party loves the most! Encourage those alternative voices, the founding will come alone if hope is there… maybe not in 2024 but for midterms and 2028.

Also, I miss some conservative voices in here (and I am not one!)… I bet there are some non-mainstream ones that could greatly benefit Lemmy’s ecosystem too.

Sony Phones… by the way, I think big part of development still is in Sweden (can someone corroborate?). can be saved… Sony has this evil nature with overreaching copyright protections but Sony Xperias has been remarkable independent on Sony’s appalling reputation.

Most point on the overprice problem… true. For what we get, outstanding optics (but many have them too now), a headphone jack and the best fingerprint sensor placement won’t cut it anymore. For that is overpriced!

Now, Xperias, do this (and wont require any more $$$):

1. Let Sony Xperias offer more support for open is phones to alternative OS (GrapheneOS, /e/, SailfishOS and the like) than just opening its bootloader. Best yet, partner with one of them!!
2. Stay in the 6in format… or better yet, 5.6-5.8in. There is a silent outcry for smaller phones for years! Don’t fall for what trials testimonies people say, let that to Samsung. Go with your guts!
3. Maintain the jack, microSD, NFC, notification LED, no notch, side fingerprint scanner and angled format.

Millions won’t mind to pay a premium for that, now, truly distinguished, phone that one can feel proud owning it and… well displaying it out there too.

Proud owner of 5 Xperias since Nokia’s 808 but, since 2022 with 2 Pixels with GrapheneOS whose hardware I hate to death but with no viable alternative left.
