  • I’m not sure why you’re being hostile towards Chapelle after finding that context. He was trying to make some sort of peace and got slighted.

And it’s everyone’s job to try to bridge divides in this climate. Would you also tell Swift to stay in her lane? How about Schwarzenegger?

Also despite her being trashy and stupid, Beobert is a representative of her district. If she’s shut out, then her constituents are shut out. And that snubbing is exactly how the maga virus started and keeps perpetuating.

  • More (faux?) moral outrage… why should I be surprised. Though I do like how you just sidestepped addressing my first sentence’s point and just spew out more Bad Things one side is doing. Bad things happen in war - surprise. It’s the reason why war’s the last resort option for getting your way.

Now try to think about why it got pushed to this point. Hint; it’s not because Israel is a mustache twirling villain. Another hint: it’s more complicated than the .ml articles paint a view of. I’ll trust the people whose job it is to understand these things rather than lemmings who get fed propaganda and pretend they have all the black/white answers.

  • True, but the average income / buying power has to be factored in too, right? Caveman googling gives the average Russian’s income to be $14k USD / year whereas Swedes are at $47k USD / year. Assuming more caveman math, that’d be like paying $5.23/dozen in Rubles compared to $3.60/dozen in SEK.

Of course you can’t just do these sort of comparisons exactly, because money’s always more complicated than that, but I think it gives a better context.

I’m going to 2nd the other guy - flooding the zone with shit is already something I see often in various lemmy communities. If you think commenters will read articles and actually present proof if something’s wrong, you have a much higher expectation from the people here than they’re actually capable of. People barely/never read the actual articles. They look at the title and the vote counts and comment/vote/think accordingly.

MBFC is at least an easy way to remove the obvious bad stuff. Yea, it’s not perfect, but it’s a thousand times better than expecting the community to self-moderate legitimate sources.

  • I did, yes. The second link has the relevant quote from the CFO - “We’re probably – you know, maybe we cried too much last year when we were hitting numbers that were 3.5% of sales”.

Though looking at the context, it looks like he regrets the actions (specifically increased security hired) that came from that. There doesn’t seem to be anything about the link to store closures.

The actual link came from an article Shepard Pie below you provided here (Is Shoplifting Really Surging?). Apparently nationwide, shoplifting is down - except in certain cities

But the increase in shoplifting appears to be limited to a few cities, rather than being truly national. […] There are some exceptions, particularly New York City, where shoplifting has spiked.

Out of the 24 cities, 17 reported decreases in shoplifting.

I’m guessing the 7 remaining cities are where the stores were closed.
