Sons/daughters of leftists don’t have a great track record. Hoping it just skips a generation. (I know nothing about Cárdenas del Río specifically)

I’m repurposing a comment I left on a post about Palantir’s involvement in the pager attacks (posted to c chapotraphouse).
Palantir CEO Alex Karp appeared as the main interview on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday. He is an enthusiastic believer in the moral authority and superiority of the US.
He says the future of modern warfare will be peer to peer and drone to drone. “You’re going to be using software to control small instruments and there’s going to be hundreds of thousands of them.” He mentions fighting China and Russia specifically.
I don’t know if this is news but interesting to hear him say a lot of evil shit out-loud on a pretty mainstream platform. Also I watched it after the pager attack happened so it took on extra significance.
edit - fixed spelling of guy’s name
I saw the CEO’s appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher which aired Friday. It’s actually worth watching because he says stuff out-loud and he’s a true believer. His ideology such as it is is a lot like Sam Harris but he’s more mask off and more animated and enthusiastic.

Thoughts. The mega-war comments were kinda cringe (esp vis a vis trans mega although I don’t think there was bad intent, hope not) and I wished people self policed more. (Not shaming anyone, bandwagons happen and now it’s corrected.) It seems these comments have been minimized and I appreciate the mod work on this. I don’t think it’s an issue anymore.
The “innocent” OT (and “oops wrong mega”) I appreciate as long as there are not too many.
The news mega is a community and sometimes I have an issue or topic that I’d like feedback and engagement on from my news comrades here. This is a common phenomenon across special interest groups, you become friendly and wish to expand the range of conversation or you wish to tap the knowledge base. (I suppose my saying this could be interpreted as a reason for More Moderation in news mega to ensure that other comms get love. It’s not my call.) Maybe a pinned comment to contain OT? Did someone else suggest that? Or what if we make a post in another targeted comm and leave a pointer here in the news mega. I’ve pointed to a news comm story in the news mega - and got positive feedback from a couple who had missed it.
Re doomer stuff. Let people vent, and use the reply. We all learn and so will the libs who wander in.
I hate this so much (CW: NSFL photo)
I was watching some European news channel in English about 30 minutes ago: The talking head guest is defending Israel and bemoaning Putler. The interviewer starts asking good questions. She’s pro-Kiev but points out the hypocrisy. She pointedly asks if the sanctions are working against Russia, and he hedges, well, yes. And she says then why not sanction Israel. And he says, we cannot apply logic here, it’s about principles.
Omg. The people who just stop when they are walking in front of me or a 2-3 person impromptu chat in the middle of a walkway or entryway. It happens all the time. I’m going to lose it.
similarly, wanting me to make a choice when I have no information or influence on budget, timing, etc. If our budget is $10 and I don’t know if it’s $2 or $50, I have no idea what an appropriate suggestion will be.
I was meeting a new friend the other day and we had to pick a spot. I texted, wherever you want, and she replied, anywhere you want. So I picked a normal coffee shop in a central location. She replied: what are you, rich, lol, how about the beach?

I have mostly overcome my prescriptivism, however, two that get me are: liberry (instead of library), and my biggest one is unnecessary apostrophe’s. They are everywhere.
This. It’s the equivalent of “I could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue” but it’s the US.
I will spare you the full version of my rat story. But a mutual came over with her rat terrier. She did not come to play. It was kind of a beautiful thing how precise and efficient she was. Also I srly believe it was the most humane end compared to other methods.
(I have had rats as pets but nature and all. Not looking for discussion. I tried live traps.)
I kept getting an ad on FB that literally said, Support Israel by purchasing this product. I reported it as inappropriate political content. I got a Support Messsage today that read, “We didn’t remove the ad.”

Agree, but please allow or forgive this rambling response.
85 US military bases and more than 52,000 US soldiers in Japan
While shocking on the face of it, I imagine sharing this with my “politically inclined” US acquaintances of D R and I stripe and hearing something like: “Well it’s either that or another Pearl Harbor/Nagasaki.”
When confronted with truths these people say: IF the US are the police if the world that’s a good thing.
Getting facts out in the open doesn’t seem to change opinion maybe because secretly people already know. Except we do see some resistance in the youth writ large who can see the horror in their feeds but I do not see much give in “polite society.” The most I get is a “yeesh, too bad about the situation in Palestine” and that’s ONLY if I know the person well.
A while back. I was telling one of my rad lib (and solidly Dem) acquaintances that Biden/US very likely blew up the pipeline. He agreed it was the likeliest scenario, but thought it was a “good thing that “we” did it.”
I relate to a lot of this. I suggest - if you have the means - to just do something you are halfway interested in. And then keep doing it with consistency. I go to a group activity and I go to often enough that I hang out and shoot the shit after and it’s kind of nice and I feel like I’ve done something besides pick up the house and look at a screen.
Last night I dreamt I had two cats with tongues like a snake that could bite. It wasn’t scary just interesting. I don’t have any cats IRL, or snakes.

I watched hours of the RNC and I cannot stomach more than a couple minutes of the DNC.
I agree about Obama. His image is precision curated and he limits his public appearances which adds to his mystique. Michelle comes off masterfully too. They’ve got it.
Not an allegation but the best I got:
So horrified was he by the Tiananmen Square incident that he chose the date for his checks notes wedding day
<<Indeed, Mr Walz has often spoken publicly about his horror at the crushing of the Tiananmen protests, and in 2009 he co-sponsored a resolution in Congress marking its 20th anniversary.
<<His wife Gwen has said that the events had such an effect on Walz, that he chose 4 June - the day Beijing sent the troops in - as the date of their wedding five years later. She said that “he wanted to have a date he’ll always remember”.>>
BBC reporting
I heard that phrase on mainstream tv news today (ABC US), some talking head saying we need to stop Iran from using its weapons of mass destruction.
