1 year agoIt’s part of Rich Call Data, which is an extension to the STIR/SHAKEN token to add more details about the caller.
It requires that the data make it entirely across the network all the way to the endpoint, and that the endpoint cares to listen to it. As far as I am aware it basically only works by default on certain Samsung phones and can be added by an app to some other Android devices. I have not seen any evidence of Apple devices ever supporting it.
AFAIK you need a special certificate as well that of course costs a lot more than the normal SHAKEN/STIR stuff.
I definitely have my problems with how SMS is handled these days and am not a fan of the registry system.
That said, based on my dealings with loan brokers in particular, IMO they are 100% right to consider that entire industry scammers until proven otherwise. The “good ones” (if they actually exist) should take offense at the actions of their colleagues and blame them for the association.
