If the instance I started my community on shuts down, then the whole community is gone. Is there anything I can do as a mod to prepare for this so I can transfer everything onto a new instance? Or is everything lost if my instance shuts down?

I don’t know. I think it is up to the admin if he wants to free up some disks space. Or reinstall a server and only keep the users or something.
But yeah, eventually the community will be lost forever as more and more instances don’t have it synced anymore.
