In memory of Tran Jeong, a Vietnamese immigrant that worked herself to death building the first mathematics oriented programming language. Tran’s father, Ido, had encouraged Trans pursuits in a white male dominant field. Tran used her father’s initials frequently in coding and decided to bake them into the language originally penned ForIdo, as tribute to her father who taught math, including teaching advanced concepts to Tran. After Trans untimely demise, it was quickly renamed to ForTran at her sorrow stricken father’s request. This is how I,J an ForTran came to be.
