Christianity is the only religion I know of that critically examines the historical context of writings and is able or even willing to react to it. What some will call cherry-picking bible verses is what I consider Christianity’s strength. The ability to critically examine your own belief. There is earnest effort to seek the truth and this has been an ongoing endeavor for many centuries. Debates with Christians will often involve the time and place and authors motivation when talking about bible verses. Moral teachings also have sensible sanity checks like “You will recognize them by their fruit” or “is it really out of a place of love what I’m saying/doing” built into Christianities holy scripture as well.

Then there are a few anecdotes relating to my personal history that I don’t want to share on the internet. I should mention the only other religion I have “hands-on” experience with is Islam since I grew up in a Muslim country although I was raised christian. Other religions didn’t seem to offer any such critical self-examination although I will admit I haven’t really gone looking.
