From the article:

The extension, which became official on July 1, will pay the third-year coach of the Knights an average of $4 million per season over the next two seasons and will increase to an average of $5.5 million during the last two seasons of the contract.

The increase during the last two seasons would place him fifth in the conference in salary among the league’s public schools if no other coach receives a raise between now and 2026.

    I definitely don’t want him fired or anything but they picked a really awkward time to do this after that total collapse last week.
