    I’m not sure this still counts as “modern”, but I can easily recommend the album Deltron 3030 by Del tha Funkee Homosapien.

    It’s basically a sci-fi hip hop concept album with a touch of comedy (as Del does) and quite a bit of social commentary. Plus the beats by Dan the Automator are some of my favorite ever, with killer scratching by Kid Koala.
