I’ve never even seen the title screen of Fortnite, but all this hate makes me really curious.

I played it briefly, even as the decrepit ancient wizened old man in his late 30s that I was. It’s pretty fun and a cool concept. You get dropped into an island, scavenge guns and healing supplies, can build a fort, and have to be the last one standing.

The moment you die you just load into another lobby.

And that’s it. If you don’t care about your looks or emotes then I believe it’s entirely free to play.

That’s where they get ya. I played thousands of hours of League of Legends. When I first played I thought “what idiot would waste money on skins that offer no gameplay advantage whatsoever?”

        I became the idiot

It’s been a decade, and I still go back to League. I’ll be fine for months, and suddenly the urge to play “just one ARAM” pops out nowhere.

I’m at the fucking bar right now, scrolling Lemmy because I’d rather go home and play League and have my mid laner call me a dog.

Someone please release me from the clutches of Riot Games. (I really do enjoy TFT tho, great little autochess game)

It’s all about the monetization. They sell skins and kids get bullied over using the free ones.

Who’s doing the bullying? The game or other kids?

The main Fortnite BR game is decent, but the UI heavily pushes kids to buy overpriced skins, they just released 3 official alternative game modes though, racing with rocket league cars, Lego Fortnite (literally Minecraft) and guitar hero with Fortnite skins and overpriced as fuck songs.

Racing is meh and guitar hero is kinda fun with friends but the Lego Fortnite is pretty addictive, you can also play with friends too so that’s a plus.

There are also hundreds of other game modes created by the community like death runs, puzzles, fashion shows and other shit.

To be honest Fortnite is pretty decent as a game but uses predatory, dark patterns to get you to buy content. I think if you put the game in kid mode or age restricted mode you can’t see skins and can’t buy any content or see the shop (might be outdated on this).

Weird analysis, how is not being able to pause in a multiplayer only game a dark pattern?

Also, I’ve never seen fortnite requiring you to play on any schedule.

I think it’s a matter of “play enough to get this battle pass done within this timeframe or pay up if you’re desperate for the final loot”. Have never felt “punished” to miss a day though…
