Behrouz, who was held for six years on Manus before finding refuge in New Zealand, also said there was a lot of money to be made in detaining refugees and asylum seekers. He cited a 420 million Australian-dollar ($286m) contract agreed earlier this year between the Australian government and a US private prisons operator, Management and Training Corporation (MTC), to run “garrison and welfare” on Nauru.

Disgusting.

Of course the US somehow still managed to find a way to be involved in something stupid and evil for profit.

I know someone who used to work for MTC at an educational facility they ran. That company is straight fucking trash and doesn’t give half a fuck about anyone they’re in charge of taking care of. The person I knew had to threaten legal action, union action, and even had to anonymously leak to the local news once, to get anything done to help the students when MTC didn’t care. That place broke them down over the years, I can’t imagine being on the other end of detainment by those fuckers when life is on the line.
