I have an old laptop lying around and I have been meaning to self host some stuff on it but never got around to it.

My biggest limitation is that I only have WIFI and I do not control the network. It’s basically your default residential WIFI network.

The only thing I actually need is self-hosted cloud. What can I utilize this laptop for?

Not really. Virtual/Mesh networks have bypassed this issue for years by making outbound tunnel connections.

Hamachi did this ~20 years ago, today it’s done with Wireguard/Tailscale, etc.

I currently have TS running on my RPi, with Subnet Routing and Funnel. Anyone can connect to my network through the Funnel, regardless of where my Pi goes (with some exceptions to strongly-firewalled networks).
