    Millions of existing videos either get pulled down or muted.

      i’m not directing this sarcasm at you, however:

      oh no, tiktok will never survive having millions of videos with completely replaced or voiced over audio. can you imagine a tiktok where you can scroll for hours and never see a single video with the original audio?

      its a move that hurts UM the most because people are making their music specifically targeted for tiktok and spotify. if new artists can’t get on one of those platforms when they make a distribution or rights deal with a big company they’ll just pick another middleman. existing artists on UM will just not be paid, putting pressure on them to switch to a label that allows streaming.

      the huge implications are that UMs share value goes down and the major shareholders (of whom tencent is one) can acquire larger stakes.
