Even when workers are well-informed about what they deserve from employers, they don’t have the power to do much more than resign and look for another job. What gives AB 800 teeth is that it specifically requires K-12 students to be educated, “on their right to join or organize a union at their workplace.”
As a kid in elementary and middle school I remember being exposed to unfair pay and teachers’ unions in order to get what they deserve. I even remember hearing about the LA teachers strikes back in the 70s. Found all this pretty inspirational and proves that if the workers get together, they can force their hand and make conditions better.
