    Edit: This post was originally made as a reply to a post (since deleted) angry about the judges who made this ruling.

    Without knowing much about Indian law, it unfortunately sounds like this was a pretty fair ruling. The court’s job isn’t to write laws but to interpret them, and the alternate marriage law (designed to handle inter-caste and non-religious marriages) that LGBTQ+ groups were hoping to include them clearly defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.

    India’s parliament will therefore need to change this.

    You have to remember, this is a nation that only five years ago decriminalized homosexual sex. It will take time. That sucks, yeah, but it’s a process. Change isn’t instantaneous.
