Messi has scored this goal with that exact shot from that same spot so many times and it’s just as good every time

I just saw the top comment and the world same , I knew which kind of goal it would be. No matter who the player assisting, Messi scores

Seriously, how is every keeper still late to make the save, did he ever shoot it into the other corner from that position?

Do you know how wide a football goal is? :D
With that speed and precision he would have to move beforehand, which would leave the other side completely open and would look beyond stupid since Messi of course can shoot to the other side too (which he often did).

Its not that Messi and Robben and others always do the same move and every opposition is dumb for not defending. Its the precision and speed that makes it undefendable.

Based on my amateur goalkeeping experience, diving close to the ground is harder than in the air. That’s why Messi’s shots like this—especially when they are on target—are very difficult to save.

also the goalkeepers weight is usually on his left foot as he is naturally moving towards that direction as the play comes from wide to central. really clever by messi and really hard to get a good sharp dive to your right side.

yessss, thats very important. Great analysis! Same reason why they teach you to head against the direction the goalie is coming from. You catch them on the wrong foot, meaning they have to take an extra step

Go watch Onana and you’ll soon get an answer to why keepers shouldn’t be doing what you’re suggesting

Didn’t his first goal in this game end with him finishing into the far top corner, from a similar build up??

This one was incredibly difficult to react to. It looked like the first guy would shoot (can’t see who it is in this clip), then it looked like Alvarez would shoot but he left it with a dummy, then Messi pulls the trigger in a split second from a position right next to Alvarez. No chance for the keeper to read that play.

I didnt watch it yet: sounds like moving from right to left, shot into left corner?
