I wouldn’t do it if you guys weren’t taking your time to look at it!

Having all you guys respond to this text so fast is really nice. I normally am pretty quiet and reclusive IRL, but you guys make me comfortable being the center of attention here and I’m glad you enjoy the things I post. It isn’t life changing or anything, but I’m glad a few minutes of my day give you all something to look forward to.

Exactly. I don’t want to make a poor experience for some people while others would have extra benefits.

      Nice and working in Boost

      Bleh blank space in Liftoff

Weird, in Liftoff I just get a blank thumbnail, but clicking it just takes me to an Imgur page and autoplays the GIF. I wonder if it’s the instances we’re all on, the apps, or some of each.

My Lemmy instance has pictrs enabled. The embedded URL is https://lemmy.sdf.org/pictrs/image/85bf09f4-ec83-4c7b-b986-fc6e2b38aac5.png even though the link URL is https://i.imgur.com/rvsLZjN.gifv

I assume any Lemmy instance with pictrs enabled would be similar, but I’m not totally sure.

Apps would likely access the URL directly or use the imgur API.

Imgur is a little weird because even though that link is a .gifv, it serving an entire HTML page with all sorts of metadata and JavaScript. Open it in your browser and view source.

You might be better off using the direct mp4 link: https://i.imgur.com/rvsLZjN.mp4

Edit: I also want to add that I’ve used at least half a dozen apps and I’ve seen a wide variety of different behaviors relating to videos and gifs, particularly when they have audio like this one.

Thank you for all that detail!

I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing. I wasn’t sure if I was doing something wrong or what. Seems like not every part of Lemmy is at the same relative stage of development. I enjoy watching this stuff grow. In just the short time I’ve been here, it feels like it’s progressed a lot and it’s neat to be here for it, road bumps and all.

Well it looks like that’s a big NO on the GIFs…

Thank you all for the rapid feedback!

The current state of Boost is so odd to me, it seems to have some really advanced things, but the posting UI seems overly complicated to use for mixed media.

Liftoff feels old in comparison, but it works great for the posts I do. I wonder if it’s just me because I’ve used Liftoff since I came to Lemmy, but I’d been on Boost for Reddit for 2 years or so but it’s alien to me in it’s current form.

Thanks! It seems about half the apps are able to handle it, so I’m hoping the others will catch up soon.

Avelon looks really nice! I’m on a Pixel though. Too many apps that wouldnt be allowed in the Google or Apple store for me to switch and I have a bunch of Google hardware at this point.
