Really, if Democrats are going to vote for any Republican, that should be by far one of the most minimal criteria. No one on the far right should be entertained.
Solid opportunity for the democrats to save the day and bring someone relatively sane to the helm if you ask me. Emmer and Scott should go talk to the democrats at this point.
Surely we can agree there is a difference between Gaetz/Green/etc. and some of the quieter/older guard republicans when it comes to actually having things function on a day to day basis?
The speaker is going to be a republican. We can’t change that. May as well get the least-worst one. And I think it’s safe to say, with no other info in front of us, one who voted to certify the election is probably saner than one who didn’t.

I don’t see this as being “the lesser of evils.” Yes, all of the apparent options are evil, but they are not evil in a “grit your teeth and hope the next election sorts it out” way. They are evil in a “fascists are every day gaining more control over the lone superpower” way. None of the apparent options are viable.
Everyone - not just in the US, but in the world - is going to lose a lot of freedom. A lot of people are going to be overtly sidelined and disallowed to participate in society. Many people will be imprisoned. Some people will be executed. Much of these will happen directly, at the hands of national governments, including the United States, and much of these will happen indirectly, at the hands of paramilitary groups, with impunity, with a wink and a nod from national governments.
It’ll happen sooner than anyone is willing to think.
So, yeah, “may as well get the least-worst one” kind of rankles me. Ten years ago, I would agree. Not today. It’s too late for that. It’s too late for anything.
