      Amen! I’m assuming Trump is going to win until he doesn’t. I’m also assuming if he doesn’t win we’ll have another 1/6 because there is no way he will drop the fraudulent election BS.

      I hope neither happens but I will love under the assumption of them happening till they don’t.

      P.S. No one particularly likes Biden but if given the choice between him and Trump/DeSantis there is no way in hell I’m not voting Biden.

        I like Biden. I just wish he wasnt such an old President. I wish he had gotten elected in 2008, with Obama as his VP. Crimea would be much different today. We probably wouldn’t have ever had a Trump Presidency, as Obama would have likely been elected in 2016 if he was up against Trump instead of Clinton.

        The biggest knock on Biden over the years was all the stupid stuff he says. (His “Gaffes”). But now that we’ve had a Trump Presidency, saying stupid stuff is an asset.

          Bidens speech has never bothered me since he has a legitimate reason for it. As for his age I agree he is to old. But I also think no one of retirement age, 65+, should hold elected office.

            I’m not even talking about his speech impediment, though. He has famously let his mouth get ahead of his brain over the years, and said things that he immediately regretted. Heck, it’s possible that his age is helping him in this respect, because he can’t physically talk as fast anymore.

            The thing is, Trump is only three years younger than Biden, so I don’t know why the focus is always on Biden’s age.

            It really depends on the 65 yo though. I mean I’m only 13 years from that and I don’t think I’m as quick as I was when I was 40. Now I consider myself a lot more wise than I was at 40 so I guess it’s a trade off.

            I do think there should be a limit honestly but more like 75. Of the folks I know that is when they really start hitting that cognitive limit. Like my MIL constantly getting turned around in my new house when they visited. It’s only like 1500 sq ft … how can you get lost? And don’t even get me started on the argument I almost got into with my FIL about student debt relief. He probably still thinks college can be paid for by working at McDonalds over the summer and books are like $20 a semester. Freakin’ boomers.

          Yeah the age thing is a bit bothersome and I’m really tired of all these old boomers (I’m a gen-x’er) … can we get somebody in office who has a clue about tech please and not think the internet is a series of tubes.

          I do wish he were a little more progressive but for the most part he’s done a really good job. Am I excited about Biden? No. Am I scared to death of Trump/Rhonda Sand Tits? Fuck yes. Will I vote for Biden? Absolutely. I was so happy when Biden got into office and I didn’t have to wonder about the horse running through the hospital anymore (It’s a John Mulaney bit… quite hilarious).

        My parents, of the same generation as the man, absolutely love him. So, he does have diehard fans, don’t mistake that.

      People need to stay worried, stay alert, and show up to vote. Not just for the presidential election. Anyone taking the time to read posts here has paid attention to what Republicans have wrought over the past few years whenever they’ve had power.

      Folks - never vote Republican, never vote in a way that indirectly benefits Republicans. The strawmen about what progressives might do barely measure up to what the Republicans have done.

      Turn out for the midterms, turn out for your piss ant local elections. If you have the time, get involved with assisting a campaign you favor. Obstruct Republican power grabs at every opportunity. It’s the only path forward - we’ve been shown the alternative.

      Voting Republican: Not even once.

          That’s a remarkably lazy response. (and no less partisan bullshit than what I wrote) Dems could be MUCH better. Despite that, they aren’t actively working to roll back rights for women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ among other things.

          Fuck your partisan bullshit.

          Edit: I’m not a cheerleader for Democrats. What I am is someone who absolutely despises Republicans. They may both be bad, but they are absolutely not the same.

      I hate how adverse so many democrats are to actually getting out to vote. I’ve voted in every election I was eligible to vote in yetso many of my peers will casually shrug their shoulders and say they didn’t feel like getting out.

    I’m not so sure. The Republican Party held its nose and voted for him the first time around and Trump got 70 MILLION votes the second time around. Biden has been fairly effective, however he certainly doesn’t seem to be exciting to too many people, including driving the youth vote, which I believe he will need to pull off another win.

      I agree that he isn’t exciting but I don’t think the president should be exciting. He or she needs to be a capable leader who is good at picking teams otherwise I want to know very little about the day to day of the president’s life. More weekly blog post and less constant tweeting.

        But that’s the thing, Trump, despite being a terrible person and president, was genuinely pretty popular with his voter base. They will more than likely come out to vote, despite his popularity declining a bit. However, Biden, while being a relatively sane, levelheaded president, is not really popular. His VP isn’t particularly liked (bad pr or not, that is an issue) and a lot of his voter support seems to be, "well, at least he isn’t Trump. " I find that incredibly scary, as it means in my mind that Biden being re-elected isn’t such a slam dunk as a lot of the DNC seems to project.

          All my neighbors, probably 15 or so rural/suburban pensultuky had 2024 flags and all of them are gone since the trial. He really pissed off a chunk of those folks.

          We’ll see how they vote should he be the nomination however.

            This year I spent two weeks driving around rural Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. During those drives I saw a single Trump yard sign, 2 bumper stickers, and not a single red maga hat.

            I think things are quite bad for Trump in visible appearance, but shame disappears in the voting booth, so who knows.

      Boring is now a feature imo. I’m so fatigued by news cycles, social media, and Trump that a boring candidate sounds fantastic. Unfortunately, we in the U.S. are hooked on controversy and division, which only benefits politicians and corporations.

    With Democrats, its never a blow out. They will always find some way to make a race that they have in-the-bag somehow turn competitive by opening some stupid opportunity for Republicans. People could claim that the last presidential elections were blow outs… but when you’re running again a goddamn Russian asset, it shouldn’t even be remotely close. And let’s not forget thag the White House is but one of many, many other races.

      Not complacency so much as not wanting either of them, and who knows, maybe trump could have listened to advisors and at least been competent. 2020, otoh, was clearly a time to vote.

        And that’s the key. Literally the only people left of center who aren’t voting for him have to twist themselves into an ideological pretzel to avoid it, and they are mad that the GOP makes the decision so obvious.

        You can tell they’re pissed off that when a guy in a white hood runs against a pro-labor railfan they don’t get the chance to be deliberative and critical about their decision to vote. They hate that the decision tree converges on voting for him because it’s either outright support for his policies or critical support against fascists. So they come up with these wild reasons not to vote for him and spend inordinate amounts of time denying that they supported outcomes that favor Republicans on the state and local level as a consequence of their defection.

        Yeah, but there is a factor to turnout of how much the candidate at the top of the ticket is activating voters. And with articles like this one, saying “trump will surely lose,” that excitability factor only increases in importance.
