ive been playing fifa for a while and this sport seems so fun to watch. problem is i dont know how to get into it. basketball is pretty straightforward with the NBA, but for football, all the different leagues and awards are confusing me, and idk where to even start. would appreciate some help.
Watch the top teams in Champions League and Premier League. I recommend City and Argentina NT if you like good football. Tottenham are also playing quite nicely right now

If you’re in USA. MLS playoffs have started. Not to familiar with their league. Apple TV is where to watch em. Liga MX is also an option. Download VIX. Some games are free. The way they work is a apetura and a Clausura. 2 weeks to go until the apetura ends then playoffs start. First week teams ranked 7-10 single elimination. After that the teams remaining will face 1-4 in a 2 game series until the final. The winners are the champions of Apetura. Then the Clausura will start 17 games then playoffs. After that they have a pre season game called champions of champions Apertura v Clausura champions face off. Epsn plus has la liga (Spain) and bundesliga(Germany). Basically work the same way as the other European leagues. About 35 games. 3 points for a win 1 for a tie 0 for a loss. At the end of the season the team with most points wins the league. They have 2 separate cup tournaments. Playoff style. Then there’s the champions league and Europa league. Battle to be crowned champions of Europe. But harder to explain how they qualify but you can YouTube it if you like.
I would say Premier League is the easiest league to follow since it’s the most available and marketed one.
Pick a team you like and watch all their games. Pre-game conferences, post-game conferences, interviews, there is a lot of substance to make you fall in love with a team.
Since the PL is such a competitive league you will enjoy watching most of the games, especially teams that are close to the team that you support in the rankings. If your team is in European competition you watch those games during weekdays Tuesday-Thursday. Other than that the League games are usually on the weekends with some being played on Fridays and Mondays.
Interesting teams to watch right now would be Arsenal, Newcastle and City from the PL. They play really good football, have a lot of youth that are promising and they are doing really good in England as well as in Europe. This is not a bias opinion since I’m a Man U fan and I would never suggest you to watch this club considering the level of football for the past decade.
Agree with the Prem League. There’s also a shit ton of decent podcasts about it from places like The Athletic, The BBC, The Guardian etc.

In all seriousness, start watching ucl games. Its easier to follow bigger teams especially if you play fifa as you’ll learn players and teams faster. Biggest leagues are Premier league (England), La Liga (Spain), Series A (Italy) and Bundesliga (Germany). 5th ranked is French league but in my heart its still the portuguese league (better teams overall but PSG is too big).

Well first of all get a set of friends who watch football . Try watching premier league , Champions League or La Liga. for the first 2 weeks watch highlights of those tournaments. Select the best player from any club, study their moves and tactics. note it down . For the 3rd week watch actual matches of those tournaments either digitally or physically. (Best option is digital as it is free) From the 4th week you can actually talk to your friends who watch football , and since now they will see you as an average 45 year old English (Basically one of them). You will have completed being an actual fan of football then at week 5 . (optional) At week 6 you know the basics and you will feel the sports football coming inside you, you might feel a burning and tingling sort of pleasure from this and now you have this mentality of playing football. Now at week 6 you want to practice football so you practice at home or join a local club. 16 years later you have been chosen to play at your desired football club but you failed. so you practice another 4 years .AND FINALLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD you’re playing in the champions league (your parents are very proud!) (your’e friends are expressing envy) You now are the football player that you only saw in matches!
I’m a Barca fan, but the EPL is easily the best league in the world right now. And it’s probably going to stay that way for a long time, because their revenue far exceeds everyone else’s. The best managers in the world right now are probably Pep at Man City and Klopp at Liverpool. De Zerbi at Brighton, Arteta at Arsenal and Ange at Spurs, also very exciting. The Prem hogs most of the talent.
It’s also the best marketed league, in every sense: the “production” of EPL games feels like a show, an event, with might appeal to you if you’re into American sports. Atmospheres generally great too, only Germany has better crowds out of the top leagues. Sound mixing on the broadcast is important too. The EPL gets it right, other leagues, not so much.
You don’t have to pick a team to support, it might come naturally. And if it doesn’t, that’s fine. I’d just try to catch every Man City game, because Pep won’t be managing forever, and he’s one of the greatest coaches of all time, probably #1.
Would also follow Tifo Football and Tifo IRL on YouTube for tactical explanations, football history, player analysis etc… The YT algorithm will suggest similar channels too. Just take everyone’s analysis with a grain of salt; football isn’t a science, and everyone says some dumb stuff once in a while.
You should always try to watch games like El Clasico/Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, Bayern vs. Dortmund, games between the Italian big 3 (Milan, Inter, Juventus), but if you wanna focus on one competition, one “storyline” so to speak, then it should be the EPL.
Also: you can use something like this to get an idea over which teams might be worth watching. Look up what these xG, xGA etc. values mean. They’re not a perfect indicator of what truly goes on in a game, but they’re nonetheless based on real life events, and aggregated by professional statisticians.
So for example if team A has scored 30 goals in 15 games, from an expected goals (xG) value of 35, while team B has scored 30 in 15 from an xG value of 25, then that means team A generally creates more chances, but is worse at converting them into goals. And chances are exciting. But it also means team B has more efficient finishers, and it’s also exciting to see players convert low value chances into goals.
Try following the team of your city, go to the stadium, have fun with it! Then you can read many magazines, news and other.
