I highly doubt that anyone working at Toyota is here, but this is caused by a union not even at your company. Imagine what they will do if you were with the UAW.
A strong union benefits people not in the union.
A $3 wage increase without a fight is not bad
There was a fight… just not by their own employees.
I think it’s kinda bad. This is a “look, you got something, so you don’t need to form or join a union, please?” type of raise.
I hope the Toyota employees don’t fall for it
Depends on whether Toyota workers were as underpaid as UAW, and they always have the right to strike for more if they want to.
That’s exactly how it works. Capitalism reacts to threats of loss, it’s up to the workers to decide if that is enough. Sometimes it is, sometimes it’s not. But this is exactly what should be happening regardless.
Use it to pay dues
They got ~8% raises without having to lift a finger/sacrifice their own financial well-being or having to make any promises or sign any agreements of any kind.
That’s ~$350-$400/mo in their pocket
Proving * once again that unions carry water for non-members.
Edited
And my friend will still complain about the annoying union reps that periodically pester people about joining, while enjoying his very cushy job/lifestyle made possible by generations of collective action elsewhere in the industry.
I’ve been communicating with idiots as little as possible lately. It’s been quiet.
I read it as “UAV strike”, and thought the workers had brought the big guns to the negotiating table.
based
Unfathomably based, actually. Hopefully this is a taste for the non-union employees to group up and push it further by joining the union or forming their own.
