Hi all

A year ago I replaced my Juniper EX4200 48T for a Mikrotik CSS326-24G-2S+ as it was silent and used a fraction of the power (12w vs around 300w!).

Unfortunately, the 10Gb performance on the Mikrotik has always been weak and its pretty much died after about a year.

Any suggestions for a rack mount switch that has 24/48 gigabit ports, 2-4 10Gb SFP+ ports and isnt super noisy? - Brand new cheap end or used ebay enterprise is fine.

ICX 6450-48P maybe looking like my best option so far?

The 6450 runs to around 25w for 24 ports, 50w for 48. The PoE model will be a bit noisier out of the box than the non-PoE, but fan swapping is fairly easy. I’m quite happy with mine.

Sounds like a 24port none poe is the one for me then! Thats only 10w more than the mikrotik

I did the dumb. I’m now looking to replace my non-PoE with a PoE to get rid of some injectors (I refuse to have more than one switch in an 18u rack).

No risk of dying after a year either, they cost a couple of grand when they were new and they’re built like tanks. If the noise of the stock fan gets to you the Sunon Maglev KDE1204PKV3 is a good replacement. You need to pop out the two outside pins and swap them because the switch uses a non-standard pinout, but that takes about 30 seconds.

Brocades definitely have a risk of dying after a year, I’ve got 2 6450s with about a dozen ports that only negotiate 100M now. Still nice switches though.
