But why are they preaching hate? They all preach from the same book, yet some preach hate and some preach compassion. You have to grapple with what makes the same religion different in different places and different times, and that comes down to the material conditions of society.

Islam isn’t that different all over the world in this subject though.

North Africa and West Asia, the places where the countries which are majority Muslim, are all under imperialist domination. Either they are oppressed by pro-lgbt countries like the US or France, or their anti-lgbt government is being propped up geopolitically for oil and trade. There’s a context to this you are ignoring. That’s where the majority of Muslims live, that’s where the seats of their religious institutions are, that’s where Mecca is, so that has an effect on the religion itself.

Also, remember, Christians were basically in agreement until very recently. It’s only been in the past decade or two that things have changed.

          Indeed.

For sure. I’d definitely call it faith based hate though when American preachers are spewing hate. I’m sure the real culprit is material conditions but it seems a bit of a copout imo when it’s religion that’s being used to perpetuate that hate.

It seems like a copout because you don’t like bigots. Understandable, I don’t like them either! I don’t waste my time blaming them, though, because I know if the material conditions change then the bigots would change too.

To me it’s their actions and their effect on others that concern me more than what is the background for their bigotry.

Sure, but I want to attack the root of the problem rather than bad individuals. The bad individuals can (and should!) be dealt with after the primary contradiction is dealt with, and that’s Zionists waving my flag and my colors when it commits genocide.

                Not in my name.
