I moved into a house with a few roommates back in August. My room is upstairs, the router is downstairs but up until three weeks ago I could stream and game with no issues. One day my internet just started periodically disconnecting. It’s been happening more and more frequent and it’s time to do something about it. I’m not sure how I should fix it though because I can’t change the router location. Should I look into buying a better router with more range, a mesh system or are there any better options?

We can’t provide a single solution because we don’t know what is causing your dropouts. You will have to troubleshoot first.

If the problem is a corroded cable connector somewhere in your neighborhood, you have to call your cable company to find it and fix it.

If the problem is a new microwave oven that’s putting out interference, then run wired Ethernet.

If the problem is an overheating power supply for your router, replace the power supply and move it somewhere cooler.

If the problem is a roommate hogging bandwidth with uploads, tell him to use some of the money he gets from OnlyFans to pay for a better internet connection.

    So, it depends.

Anyone buy any new equipment that could generate interference?

    If you’re connecting at 5ghz, try 2.4ghz.

I would look into a mesh system or a high-power router.
