My att router just broke and they won’t be able to send a new one to me until wednesday. I have to work from home and need the internet so am wondering if i can purchase one in the mean time that will work with att fiber ont. i’ve read you have to use their equipment but if they can’t get me a router for 4 days i need another solution. Thanks!

If you have the ONT white box on the wall you which the router plugs in with an RJ45 cord. Then you can use any router. But if the fiber cable plugs directly into the router and it’s a combo then you need the exact one. Maybe you can take old in and swap them out

It’s not an option even with a separate ONT. ATT Fiber made the asshole decision to lock it behind an 802.1x authentication with a cert that only their gateways have. There are ways to extract the cert but they are pretty involved.

Need need need. If it’s that important to you, you should have invested in a redundant option long ago. Time to mooch off a neighbor or camp out at a coffee shop or find a temporary office.

You need to use the AT&T fiber gateway if you have AT&T fiber to be able to use your fiber internet. They have two styles, one where there’s an ONT separate from the gateway (BGW210) and the other where the ONT is in the fiber gateway (BGW320). It sounds like you have a separate ONT like me, and your BGW210 broke. You can’t really replace that, only AT&T can, since the AT&T fiber service requires a certified handshake that only their BGW210 can supply. There are workarounds for it, but not short term, it takes a while to get that working.

So, unfortunately you’ll have to wait for AT&T to ship you a replacement BGW210…you’re stuck there. Where I live there are “remote workspaces” where you can work by paying to use them per day that include internet and a workspace. I’ve used that before, no problems, they’re just fine. There’s also places like Starbuck’s where you can get internet as long as you buy coffee occasionally, as well :-).

Sorry that you’ve been put in that position. One more thing, if you have an unlimited cell plan, you can also use your phone as a hotspot for a laptop or desktop computer for some period of time. That might also bridge you through a few days until you get your BGW210 from AT&T.

Good luck, I feel your pain.

T-Mobile has a deal going on for their 5G home Internet.

    Use your phone hotspot.

Then in the future, get a second isp.
