French autorities say that banning away fans for this match had little to do with the safety for Ajax fans but rather the safety for the Marseille fans. “Agressive behavior is something that is seen a lot with Ajax ultras, who mostly operate under the name ‘F-Side’. They are known as one of the most dangerous groups of Europe.”

In 2009 things already went wrong between the two clubs when Marseille and Ajax faced eachother in the UEFA cup. Ajax fans went with a big group of fans to Marseille. Ajax fans were then attacked by Marseille fans with bricks, sticks and iron bars. Ajax fans then chased Marseille fans until police showed up. In the return in Amsterdam Ajax fans held up a banner saying “We had joy we had fun, we had L’om on the run”.

People here acting surprised. Every single time Dutch fan travel for away EU game, they just sack cities and attack random people.

Good decision, maybe Dutch police will do a little bit more to actually prevent the most violent supporters to travel.

Embarrassing, this is how football fans are treated every week end in France. The gov chooses the easy way out everytime with the ban of fans even for fixtures with low to no risk of riots or incidents, no real rivalry or tensions between clubs

Our police is just shit. There were issues with some Dutch fans on away games but it’s also up to the authorities to make sure things go well when they come.

This is a total embarrassment, combined with the scandals surrounding the French police with far-right policemen, some who murder people without facing consequences, domestic abuse, lack of hiring, etc. A complete rebuilding of the police institution is needed

We are not angels, but a little bit self reflection is needed after they allowed Marseille fans to bombard the Lyon coach (injuring him), and teambus with stones.

It’s ok though, after investigating themselves, everyone concluded they did their job correctly.

The game will be (re-)played in Marseille as if nothing happened. No sanctions no blames. All good.

Don’t take it personally Ajax bros, it’s the excuse used weeks in weeks out by our incompetent authorities to justify the ban on traveling fans. Infuriating but it really says more about Marseille and french authorities than it says about you.

What Marseille fans did to Lyon’s bus don’t make a strong case for them, but it has mostly been French authorities taking the easy route.

Instead of deploying and organizing themselves to secure a safe environment for travelling fans, whoever they are, they just straight up ban them so it’s easier for them, don’t even need to bother.

And then when you have the UCL final, you have no clue how to manage fans.

Come to think about it, the French police aren’t so different from my country (Indonesia). They’re too lazy to think about solving the problems properly and they just ban things (and people).

Whether it’s ajax or any other team it’s always like that anyway, our fans complain every time about away fans restrictions but apart from AEK fans we can’t have anyone come close to us without the most stupid behaviour coming out, doesn’t even matter who started what, the reality is there’s always a small group of fans who’s too dumb to just go watch a game and behave. I don’t have much love for the police and their awful organisation but I can somewhat understand why they’d rather avoid having visitors if they can.

Our fans haven’t been that violent in Europe recently, right?

They trashed our own stadium and forcefully suspended league games, but I can’t remember any outstanding act of violence abroad for at least a decade.
