So i’m looking to buy a wireless router or access point for my house. The one built into my modem doesn’t reach all the way to the back of my house, and I heard that extenders are not really great. I need one access point (meaning 1 ID to connect to when i’m at home, it can be multiple devices if necessary - and maybe extendable to outside to the back of my garden?). What should I buy to wire into my modem via an ethernet cable?

As far as privacy goes, is there something that can enhance my privacy, as in, not send data to the ISP, or have some kind of virtual cage if I want to keep some data from exiting my home? For example, I have a robot vacuum with a camera in it. Can I block certain ports/ip’s with a router so it cannot communicate outside of my home?

Also, I want a kinda dumb device, that doesn’t need any cloud subscription or questionable company that could use the data it can gather…

If the privacy part is harder to solve, any good recommendation for a good signal wifi router is welcome!

should I get one like the TP-Link Archer AX18?

Your not gonna get what you desire with consumer level “all in one” gear. You need separates (ie router and AP).

As a suggestion, look at PiHole to stop some things from reporting (also stops some ads and some malware)…not the complete answer though since, as already posted, your ISP sees all…

Once you get away from consumer level, look for routers/switches that support VLANs. For those devices that you just want local access to and not report anything to the mothership, you would need to create a VLAN with no internet access and place the IOT devices on it, unfortunately, sometimes you lose the easy “connect from anywhere” functionality.
